Fershleiser, Rachel & Smith, Larry. I can’t keep my own secrets: Six word memoirs by teens famous & obscure. New York: HarperTeen. 2009.
Genre: Nonfiction
Review:
This book is a collection of six word memoirs written by real teens and collected by the editors of Smith magazine. Between its pages, over 600 teens tell their stories, secrets, dreams, and fears in only six words. Some are funny, some sad, some surprising, and some ordinary. They’ll make you smile, frown and think.
This was a very interesting book to read. Teens will love reading about other teens’ lives and may even be able to relate to a few. This is a good pick to help get reluctant readers interested in memoirs and may even inspire them to write their own six word memoir. It would also make for an excellent discussion starter as many different topics are brought up within its pages.
